Frequently Asked Questions

What will be the temperature of my beer while using The Keg Koozy™?

The exact temperature of your beer will vary based on how cold your keg was when you put The Keg Koozy™ on and the ambient temperature of the air around the Keg. When a keg is first removed from an industrial refrigerator at a store, the temperature of the beer is between 39-42° F. At this temperature, your beer will taste extremely cold and refreshing. Uninsulated, the Keg loses roughly 33% of it’s “coldness” in the first hour, so it’s a good idea to apply the Keg Koozy right at the store.

When your Keg (using the The Keg Koozy™) is in a room temperature environment (68-72° F), such as inside or a pleasant day outside, you can expect it to average a gain of roughly 1°-2° F per hour. After six hours, your Keg should be around a tasty 48°-50°F, which to your mouth will still taste like a fresh, cold beer. Without The Keg Koozy™, the temperature of the Keg will increase up to 3 times as fast.

Disclaimer: These results are from testing in a controlled environment. Your results should be similar but may differ due to variable conditions.

What if I’m using my Keg Koozy™ on a hot summer day? Will it still keep my beer cold?

Yes. The Keg Koozy™ will still insulate the Keg and keep your beer cold for an extended period of time. However, the beer may warm more rapidly due to the higher ambient temperature. Try to keep the Keg out of direct sunlight (a no brainer anyway) and ensure that there is good ventilation around the Keg. If you find the Keg becoming too warm, we recommend placing a bag of ice under the keg, making sure it’s flush with the metal surface. Since your beer is pumped from the bottom of the Keg, this will serve as a local cooling point and should help maintain the desired temperature. You can also place ice on top of the keg as close as possible to the tap. This will help cool the beer as it is pumped from the bottom of the keg and up through the metal of the tap.

If you know it’s extremely hot and you will need the keg cold for longer than six hours, use The Keg Koozy™ to keep your Keg cold for the first several hours, then you can switch to ice and a bucket. Using The Keg Koozy™ for the first several hours will allow you to get by with less ice and less waste.

What if my Keg needs to be cold for more than six hours?

We specifically designed The Keg Koozy™ to keep your Beer Cold for six hours, which is the length of time that most events are planned to last (noon-6PM, 6PM-midnight, 8PM-2AM, etc…). If your Keg must be kept cold for a longer period of time, we recommend that you either increase the rate at which you use the Keg and/or find more friends. If these are not an option, use The Keg Koozy™ to keep your Keg cold for the first several hours, then you can switch to ice and a bucket. Using The Keg Koozy™ for the first several hours will allow you to get by with less ice and less waste.

Does The Keg Koozy™ keep my Keg as cold as ice and a tub would?

If a keg is surrounded on the bottom and sides by ice it will stay at it’s refrigerated temperature of 42° F as long as the ice is consistently applied. The Keg Koozy™ will drastically reduce the rate of warming so that over six hours your beer will warm very slowly and still taste refreshing and cold the entire time. The average person will not realize a noticeable difference between a 42° F and 48° F beer. Plus, The Keg Koozy™ allows you to skip the hassle of the messy ice and awkward tub.

Why does The Keg Koozy™ not have a bottom or a top?

The short answer: The Keg Koozy™ is designed to be convenient, durable, and most of all efficient and effective at keeping your Keg cold for six hours. It accomplishes this by forming an insulating layer around the largest surface areas of the keg, all while being durable, convenient, and sleek. Adding a bottom, top, or any other accessories would have made it needlessly more complicated, bulky, and costly. The Keg Koozy™ is simple, convenient, and effective as it is, which is why we offer our 110% money back guarantee.

The more brainy answer: In addition, Neoprene only works as an insulator when it’s flush and tight against the surface (think: wetsuit). The shape of a Keg, with a recessed “top” and “bottom”, does not allow Neoprene to stretch tight over those surfaces. Therefore, a top or a bottom would only be “show” and not add any real insulating capability. Once again, try it out, we know you’ll be satisfied.
